Earlier this year, Microsoft strengthened the on-premises and hybrid mobile business intelligence capabilities of its Microsoft Dynamics ERP products, including its project-focused solution Microsoft Dynamics SL, with the acquisition of Datazen. Datazen is a mobile business intelligence and data visualization tool provider for Windows, iOS, and Android devices.
Kamal Hathi, Partner Director, Cloud and Enterprise at Microsoft, says, “This acquisition accelerates our Power BI strategy to help organizations create a data culture with easy-to-use, accessible tools to extract maximum value from data – from anywhere, on any device.” He adds, “Over time, we plan to integrate Datazen technology with Power BI to give our customers another hybrid bridge for their on-premises investment in the cloud.”
Datazen CEO Miljan Braticevic says that Datazen will continue to develop and evolve the product, which he says will complement Power BI. Datazen offers its customers the following:
- KPI Repository: connected to live data sources, this tool shows the latest values and trends for quick, timely insights.
- Business Intelligence Dashboards: interactive data visualizations and detailed analysis and drill-throughs.
- Team Collaboration: users can participate in KPI and dashboard conversations, see when new KPIs and dashboards are published, and they can collaborate on the go from any device.
- A Single Point of Publishing: connect to your data sources via the Datazen Publisher app, create dashboard layouts for master, tablet, and phone views, then publish to all devices.
Datazen is optimized for SQL Server Analysis Services, often used for business intelligence needs by Microsoft Dynamics ERP customers. SQL Server Enterprise Edition customers with version 2008 or later and Software Assurance are now entitled to download Datazen Server software at no additional cost.
